Green highways – smart solution for sustainable environment development
Abstract
Concept of green highways is an integral part of global vision for the development of road traffic – transportation infrastructure. It is a result of constant need for harmonization of road highways, their elements and objects, and the goal oriented towards minimizing the adverse transport impacts on environment, respectively, making clean, green and polution free surroundings. Bearing in mind expected directions for highway engineering development, from one side, and requirements for ecological healthy surroundings, on the other side, planning, construction, exploitation and maintenance of green highways, mean usage of modern practices which are enable to manage with ecosystems, savings in energy consumption, recycled materials usage. Successful realization of this sustainable approach in the process of road network management means green strategy usage, with principles for development which provide protection of environment from harmless influence of road traffic – transportation system.
